Learning Working English as a Second Language

Family Support Center

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM:
This program has served well over 300 adult learners since 2005.

It is estimated that almost 46 million Latinos live in the United States today. This is a 33% increase in the number of Latinos in the US in just 10 years. In addition, according to the 2000 US Census Report, MA would have seen a decline in total population had there not been a significant increase in the number of Latino newcomers to the Commonwealth. These individuals are entering the workforce with little or no English. Approximately forty percent (40%) of even highly educated, non-English speakers are low income. Studies have shown that with a functional level of English these individuals would earn $10,000 to $20,000 more per year on average.

Our nationally-recognized curriculum, trained and licensed instructors, our convenient location and flexible class schedules provide non-English speakers a tremendous opportunity to secure self-sufficiency and economic prosperity.

FUNDING AND SPONSORS:
Funded by grants from the Stoddard Charitable Trust and the Fletcher Foundation for the past three years.
